A new autonomous real-time reporting passive acoustic monitoring buoy has been deployed by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute off the coast of the eastern shore of Virginia, just north of the Chesapeake Bay shipping lanes. This location was chosen to support the Mid-Atlantic Nearshore & Mid-shelf Baleen Whale Monitoring project by providing acoustic detections for potential small vessel work such as photo identification and tagging. Details of verified daily detections can be viewed on the Robots4Whales website.
