The U.S. Navy requires information about the in-water density and abundance of harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) in various parts of Hood Canal, Washington, to evaluate impacts and estimate exposure to Navy activities that may cause acoustic disturbance (e.g., use of sonar, pile driving, and other marine construction). To determine the best approach for estimating in-water density and abundance of harbor seals in Hood Canal using existing data, a workshop was held in October 2015 in Seattle, Washington, and was attended by experts and scientists with experience in the region. S
