Aerial shoreline surveys for marine mammals and sea turtles were conducted subsequent to two U.S. Commander Pacific Fleet training events in the Hawaii Range Complex. The surveys involved circumnavigation of the island of Kauai in January–February and the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe in August. Both the Koa Kai and Rim of the Pacific Exercise or “RIMPAC” involved the use of mid-frequency active sonar.
