October 7 Webinar on New Report: Cumulative Effects of Stressors on Marine Mammals
On Friday, October 7 from 1:00-2:00 EDT, you’re invited to join by webinar for a public briefing on a new report from the National Academies, Approaches to Understanding the Cumulative Effect of Stressors on Marine Mammals. While past reports from the National Academies have focused on the biological effects of underwater sound on marine mammals, this new report examines sound as a component of the many other stressors on marine mammals, including fishing, pollution, and climate change. The report assesses current methodologies used for evaluating the cumulative effects of multiple stressors and identifies new approaches that could improve assessments. Dr. Peter Tyack of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, who served as the Chair of the report’s authoring committee, will present the report’s findings, followed by a Q&A session.
